About Me

About the Author:

I am currently a 23-year-old traveler with a love of flying, reading, museums, and archaeology. I can't imagine anything better than going on a trip to somewhere I've never been before and seeing the world for the first time (as cheesy as that is).  I graduated from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, and a minor in Religious Studies. My undergraduate research was on public archaeology and its theories as applied to a small colonial farmstead in Waynesboro, PA (check out the site here). As a result, I'm very interested in archaeology and public education, particularly how archaeological information is passed between professionals and site visitors, and how to get the public - like you and me! - involved in and understanding archaeology.

While I've spent some time in places outside the United States such as England, France, Ireland, Egypt, and Greece (along with a confusing layover in which I entered and left the Netherlands via the airport customs desk at 5:00 am within five minutes of each other), someday, I hope to spend the rest of my life in a trench somewhere where it rains every day, stays around a cool 60° F, and offers a chance at exploring life somewhere in the distant past.

Of course, that lead me to Scotland (sans the consistent temperature).

Currently I'm working on a dissertation on early medieval monasticism in Scotland, particularly in the Hebridean and Western islands, as a part of a Masters degree in Celtic and Viking Archaeology at the University of Glasgow. I hope this blog enlightens people on what doing a Masters degree, travelling the British Isles, living abroad, and studying archaeology is like. Please, if you have any questions about anything you see on this blog, or about archaeology, history, public education, college, grad school, anything - drop a line at rousmo01@gmail.com
